It will be an utter waste of your time and money to buy this item or anything else from this company. The power source is worthless, as is IOGear's customer service department. --Lisa H.
The hub will not power on or work unless you connect both the USB and Firewire cables to your computer. Great hub IF you need both USB and Firewire all the time. Therefore you cannot just use usb, or firewire.
Some of the lights came on, indicating things were plugged into them when clearly nothing was, and they also didn't include the firewire cable that was supposed to come with it. The unit doesn't work at all, in either a PC or a Mac. I wish I had not been so captivated by the idea of having such a nice hub and had read the other reviews, because it would have saved me the hassle of having to return it. What a piece of crap. I haven't even had it for 24 hours and it is going back to Amazon. It is obvious from other reviews that IOGear makes an entirely inferior line of garbage products that no one likes.
This could be an issue of power, but I DO have the power supply plugged in. Mostly it works ok, and I really like the form factor. But many times it will not read the card. (I suppose it could also be the computer, but I do not have the same problem with a portable reader plugged into another port on the computer)
Hence the 3 star rating. Otherwise, it a nice hub for the money. My biggest complaint is the cheap soft rubber stand that this hub just sits in. Definitely misleading advertising. I especially like the 2 available ports (1 firewire, 1 USB) on the front for easy access to plug in temporary devices such as a USB memory stick, firewire video camera, etc. This hub works well on my iMac, no problems at all. As noted, you don't really get 3 firewire ports, since one of them is needed to connect the hub to your computer leaving only 2 firewire ports left on the hub. It is very unstable and loose fitting, and the hub pops out of the stand very easily if knocked over.
